Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) is a program in which chapter officers go to receive training for their leadership skills and for their new officer positions. As with every year, COLT started with opening ceremonies with the state officers. The chapters each broke apart and danced with students from other chapters as well. This allowed us to get to meet other officers from other schools so we can work along them as well. Eventually we broke apart into smaller groups and talked about those who inspire us. It was a truly heartfelt conversation which helped to put a very positive light on the day. We also found out each other's aspirations for their futures in the field of Agriculture. There was a lot of diversity in the answers shared, from those wishing to pursue veterinary science to those wanting to go into biotechnology. Eventually, after several fun group activities, we got to go into individual groups based on our positions on the officer team. Here we learned the basic requirements of our jobs. We also learned useful tips to help our officer team from each of our positions. Then we all regrouped and worked on team brainstorming activities. This helped us to develop communication and a bond with our fellow officers. Ultimately, COLT was a major success this year as we learned how to progress our leadership skills and how to be a reliable officer team for the 2017-2018 year.
