COLT - Chapter Officer Leadership Training 2018

On Tuesday, 22 August, 2018, the Wamogo FFA Officer team went to Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT).

First, all the Connecticut chapters gathered in the auditorium of Ledyard High School in Ledyard, Connecticut. In this introductory session, all chapter officer teams engaged in a workshop led by Piper Merritt, the National FFA Central Region Vice President. In this workshop, officers were challenged with meeting a new FFA member from a different chapter, and creating a handshake with them. This activity was an interesting way to follow this years theme of “Rise Up and Unite” by showing that everyone can unite over something as simple as a handshake.

After this group workshop, Wamogo’s officers split off into smaller groups pertaining to their position. For example, the Reporters and the Historians stayed in the auditorium to learn the specific responsibilities of their roles. This workshop’s activities contained a group project with five officers in each group, where they would work together to create an article on Winter festivities. This activity was helpful for the Reporters and Historians because they are tasked with updating the community on chapter activities and accomplishments, and maintaining the records of the chapter as well.

The officer team learned teamwork and communication skills. They each wrote out goals that they want to achieve this year in office. Every year, COLT is a great way for Wamogo’s Officer Team to bond and learn about their positions.
